Mission Statement

Marion Fire Department is dedicated to providing the highest level of public service to everyone in the City of Marion and the Marion Area Fire District. We protect lives and property through fire suppression, disaster management, hazardous material response, fire prevention, public education and heavy rescue. 

Overview

Marion Fire Department is a combination fire department consisting of 15 full time employees, 11 part-time employees and 5 volunteer firefighters. We stand ready to respond quickly to emergencies 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Our Equipment includes four Engines/Pumpers, a 102-foot aerial ladder truck, one UTV, 1 Boat, 3 Command Vehicles, and two four wheel drive brush trucks. We participate in fire prevention and safety, the department offers school and civic club programs, fire station tours and school presentations. 

Responsibilities

  • The City of Marion Inspections Department conducts fire inspections of commercial and institutional buildings in the City of Marion in accordance with State law. 
  • The Fire Department responds to emergencies in the City Limits, the six mile Marion Area Fire District and automatic aid to all Fire Departments in McDowell County.  
  • The fire insurance rating for the City of Marion is a Class 3 and the rating for the Marion Area is a Class 3/9. 
  • Corey Presnell serves as the Marion Fire Department Chief.
