Building Services
Responsibilities
The Department provides building inspections and plan review services for all new construction, alterations, additions, and modifications to existing structures. The department is responsible for enforcing the North Carolina Building Code and other local ordinances through plan review, inspections, as well as enforcement.
Building Inspections Program
The City's Building Inspections program was recently rated by the Insurance Services Office, Inc. Building Code Effectiveness Grading Classification as a Class 4 for residential property and as a Class 4 for commercial and industrial property. Only 12% of North Carolina City and County Building Inspections Departments have a higher rating than the City of Marion.
