Ayers has served on the Marion City Council for nearly eight years, demonstrating his commitment to public service and the betterment of the city. He is a graduate of Western Carolina University, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology in 2000. In addition to his public service, Ayers holds multiple Securities Licenses and is a licensed Investment Advisor Representative. His professional background combines financial expertise with a passion for serving the people of Marion.
"With a comprehensive background in public service, I am confident that my leadership abilities and commitment to community development align perfectly with the needs of the City of Marion," said Ayers. "Throughout my professional career, I have consistently demonstrated a proven track record of successfully managing complex projects, fostering collaboration with stakeholders, and implementing impactful policies. Notably, my service over the last 7+ years on the Marion City Council and as Mayor Pro-Tem since 2020 provide me with distinctive insights to the needs and goals of Marion."
Ayers is an active member of First Presbyterian Church in Marion. He and his partner, Megan Mace, enjoy spending time with their three children, Eastan Ayers, Lincoln Mace, and Truman Mace. In their free time, the family enjoys outdoor activities, particularly fishing, and supporting their children's extracurricular pursuits.
"Being a lifelong resident of Marion, I have a true dedication to the city and community, and I believe having current relationships with Marion’s Department Heads and partners provides me with a unique perspective of its aspirations and needs going forward," Ayers continued. "I feel being familiar with Marion’s strategic plan and specific opportunities and difficulties allows me to offer relevant skills that would be of value in achieving these objectives for the benefit of its citizens."
In addition to his role on City Council, Ayers' dedication to public service is evident through his involvement in various local boards and committees, including serving as vice chair of the Foothills Planning and Development Board, the McDowell County Joint Utility Committee, and as a member of the McDowell County Cooperative Extension Board.
