Mike Conley Recognized as Marion's 2021 Main Street Champion

McDowell News Reporter Mike Conley was recognized at the Tuesday, March 15, 2022, regular Marion City Council meeting for recently being awarded the Main Street Champion Award during the North Carolina Main Street Virtual Conference. 

Conley was nominated for the award by the Marion Business Association's board, because of his dedication to promoting downtown and supporting local businesses. 

Marion Business Association President Emily Causey stated that "Mike was nominated for this honor, because of his endless support of downtown Marion." Causey continued to say that "Mike not only reported on happenings occurring downtown, but he also made sure to visit and support local businesses regularly."

During his 30-plus years as a journalist, Conley has written numerous stories about downtown businesses, events and happenings. He's also made appearances on UNC-TV's "North Carolina Weekend" series and WNCW's "More to the Story" program to promote downtown Marion.

Mayor Steve Little commended Conley for his support of downtown Marion and awarded him a medallion and certificate recognizing Conley as Marion's 2021 Main Street Champion. Conley was 1 of 33 individuals recognized as Main Street Champions at the North Carolina Main Street Virtual Conference.
