Business owners are required to purchase an annual privilege license to do business in the City of Marion. Authorized by the NC General Assembly and the Marion City Council, this requirement enables the City to gather the most accurate information about businesses within the city limits and to ensure that businesses locate and operate in areas that are properly zoned for the particular type of business being conducted.
Prior to opening a new business, owners must apply for a zoning compliance permit, which can be found online or at City Hall in the Planning & Development Services Department. The permit is free of charge but must be approved by the Zoning Administrator prior to receiving a privilege license.
