Farmer's Market

Historic Marion Tailgate Market

The Historic Marion Tailgate Market is a local farmers market operated by the Marion Business Association and part of the Mountain Tailgate Association operated by Appalachian Sustainable Agriculture Project (ASAP).   The market is open every Tuesday throughout the summer growing season, with a Saturday market offered during peak growing season.  The market features fresh locally grown produce and handmade products.  The market is held at the tailgate market pavilion in the West Henderson Parking lot just west of Main Street next to the Historic Depot District.  Public parking is available onsite, at the Marion Depot, or the public parking lot across from the market on the corner of Logan Street and West Henderson Street.  On any given Tuesday, the market offers produce, flowers and other artisan specialties such as breads, cheeses and jams.

Started as a one-time seasonal event in 2007 as part of the NC Rural Center’s NCSTEP program, the Marion Tailgate Market's instant popularity led to the opening of a permanent market and the construction of shade pavilion in May 2009.

Donations from Farm Bureau, Marion Rotary Club, Nancy Spencer of Spencer’s Hardware, and other generous contributions paid for the pavilion’s construction, which resulted in an award from the NC Department of Commerce Main Street Program as the Best Public-Private Partnership. Every Tuesday the market is bustling with faithful shoppers who shop and stop to socialize with friends.
