The City of Marion is seeking a highly responsible and skilled professional for the position of Public Works Superintendent.  The position is responsible for the administration of a full service Street Division, Facilities Maintenance Crew, and Grounds Maintenance Crew.  The position also manages the operation and maintenance of a municipal cemetery.  Work includes a full range of personnel management responsibilities.  Duties include planning, organizing, and supervising the work of crews engaged in the construction, maintenance, and repair of municipal streets and related appurtenances; providing supervision/project management during the construction phases of projects; generating construction cost estimates for various street, concrete, and storm drainage projects; compiling proposed operating budgets for the various areas of responsibility; monitoring and managing assigned budget to ensure the division stays within the adopted budget; planning, organizing, and supervising the work of crews engaged in facilities maintenance and grounds maintenance.  The employee provides technical advice and assistance to the Public Works Director.  The employee is responsible for ensuring that modern, safe, effective, and efficient practices and procedures are utilized by municipal work crews.   Work requires considerable independent judgment, decisiveness, and initiative. The employee frequently communicates with the public and must do so courteously and professionally. The successful applicant shall possess considerable knowledge of and work experience, at the supervisory level, with the modern procedures, techniques, theories, methods, equipment, tools, and materials used in the construction, maintenance, and repair of municipal streets, sidewalks, and drainage systems.  A high school diploma is required and a Vocational/Technical Degree in a related trade is preferred.  Must possess the ability to read, understand, and construct from engineered plan sets and drawings.  Position open until filled.  Salary dependent upon qualifications and experience.  Complete job description, requirements for consideration, and application can be obtained from the City’s website or directly from City Hall.  Submit resume and completed application to City of Marion Personnel Technician, PO Drawer 700, Marion, NC 28752.  EOE.
