Emergency Alerts

  Emergency Preparedness

The City of Marion works in coordination with the McDowell County Emergency Management Agency to plan for and respond to an emergency situation as it occurs.  In 2006, the City of Marion adopted the McDowell County Emergency Operations Plan to provide structure and mechanisms for protecting citizens from natural and manmade disasters including all efforts related to prevention, preparedness, response, mitigation, and recovery.

To further ensure the safety of our citizens, the City of Marion maintains and emergency alert system to help keep citizens informed of hazardous conditions when they exist.

Emergency alerts may originate at the national, state, or local level of government and the City of Marion’s online emergency alert system is just one of many ways to obtain information. During an emergency, citizens should also stay tuned to local TV and radio stations for additional information.

To obtain more information about a specific event contact the McDowell County Emergency Management Agency at (828) 652-7121.
